I know that it is the reason some of us play golf (well, one of the reasons), we have to proof ourselves worthy of being called golfers, no wait, GOLFERS!
We want to grip-it and rip-it every time we step out onto the tee and we do everything right except hitting where it suppose to go…
There are some who think that if you hit it 300m you are a good golfer and that you are going to shoot low scores. Not true. If you are inconsistent with the driver, or have some confident issues, then leave it in the bag.
The great Jack Nicklaus rarely hit his driver. He was famous for his 1iron off the tee. He was a great thinker on the course. He knew that if he could hit 14 out of 14 fairways, that he would have a better chance to hit those 14 greens more often. And did it work for Jack?
Become a chess player, always think about your next move. The most important shot in golf is the next shot!
It is also very demoralising when you happen to tee it up with some seniors or ladies (forgive me for saying), and you out drive them miles but they end up with par and you with bogey or worse.
Try it next time you go out on the course to leave the driver in the car and take the next longest club that has more loft and with which you are comfortable, like a 3wood, hybrid or even a 3 iron.
Do what Nicklaus did, and hit the fairways, you might surprise yourself.
