Mahan triumphs at Barclay’s

The American Hunter Mahan won The Barclays tournament on Sunday, following a final-round charge which saw him overtake a crowd of competitors to clinch the title.

Mahan remained one shot off the lead for most of the front nine during the tournament’s final round, keeping pace with the likes of Jason Day, Ernie Els, and Matt Kuchar who joined a host of players at the top of the leader board during a hotly-contested final round.

From a steady front nine performance, Mahan found his groove after the turn to card five birdies over eight holes as he surged ahead of the competition.

A bogey at the final hole cut down his winning margin from three strokes to two, but the champion appeared unfazed as he lifted the trophy at his sixth PGA Tour title. His last victory came two years ago at the Houston Open.

Second place at the tournament went to fellow-American Cameron Tringate and the Australians Jason Day and Stuart Appleby who were tied as runners up. Matt Kuchar and William McGirt shared third place with South Africa’s Ernie Els, three strokes behind the winner.

Donaldson wins Czech Masters

The Welshman Jamie Donaldson lifted the trophy at the Czech Masters on Sunday, with a two-shot  win over Britain’s Bradley Dredge.

Late summer weather created excellent playing conditions at the Albatross Golf Resort during Sunday’s final round, with several players vying for the lead. Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen kept Donaldson on his toes over the front nine, but the Welshman took charge on the home stretch as he out-played his competitors for a two-stroke victory.

With Dredge in second place and Kjeldsen tied for third, Donaldson had good reason to celebrate his third European Tour title – his win on Sunday also guarantees him a place on the European Team at this year’s Ryder Cup.
