Course Review: 3 Laid-Back Courses For Weekend Golfers

3 Laid-Back Courses For Weekend Golfers

Watching the best players in the world navigate championship courses every weekend, it’s tempting to dream of playing the most challenging eighteen holes on the planet – but it’s not always that much fun when you get there.

The frustration of playing championship courses
The beauty and famous reputations of the world’s top courses are enough to lure many weekend golfers - but after a round of dropped shots, high scores, and balls lost forever in the rough or buried at the bottom of a scenic lake, you may end up wishing you never played the course to begin with.

Fortunately, there are plenty of golf courses that cater to the needs of weekend golfers – they are challenging, fun to play, and won’t cost you a fortune. Here are three of the most playable courses in the United States.

Dogwood Hills – Flat Rock, Alabama
As the name suggests, this course is built on level terrain – but with enough undulating fairways to provide a challenge. Dogwood Hills is a favourite among visiting golfers for its broad fairways and easy-to reach greens.

Coyote Lakes Golf Club – Surprise, Arizona
The State of Arizona, with it's great year-round weather, is famous for its huge selection of excellent golf courses – and Coyote Lakes is no exception. The desert location makes for easy ball-searching, while fairways and greens are forgiving to the higher-scoring weekend golfer.

Azalea Sands Golf Club – Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Myrtle Beach, SC, is another golfing hotspot for weekender golfers and pros alike. This part of the world is home to a lot of famous golf courses – and some infamously difficult ones too. If you’re just in the mood for a relaxing round of golf Azalea Sands, with its even layout, should be high on your list.

Great courses closer to home
If you’re far from the three courses listed above, you can always check your local listings for a municipal golf course – especially if you’re travelling anytime soon. US municipal courses are designed for enjoyment, and that’s exactly what every golfer deserves during their leisure time.
