Player Profile: Robert Streb

On Sunday America’s Robert Streb won a three-way playoff to clinch his first PGA title at the McGladrey Classic. With his career on the rise at the age of 27, Streb looks set to make a splash on the Tour – this week’s player profile follows his path to victory.

Early life

Streb was born and raised in Chickasha, Oklahoma where golf became a big part of his teenage life. Moving to neighbouring Kansas for his university education, he completed a degree in Marketing from Kansas State University where he was a member of the collegiate golf team. After a solid college golf career, Streb turned professional in 2009.

Pro debut

Streb made his debut on the NGA’s Pro Golf Tour in 2010. Adapting well to the pressures of professional golf, he weathered the storm and qualified for the second-tier Web.com Tour the following season.

2011 was a consolidation year for Streb as he made strides on the Web.com Tour and set the stage for his first professional victory – after lifting the trophy at the 2012 Mylan Classic he joined the PGA Tour in 2013.

Playing in the big league

Streb’s debut season on the PGA Tour saw him participate in 25 events – his busiest year to date. Making 12 cuts and finishing five times in the top 25, he retained his Tour card for the 2013 season. Now a more experienced player with first-season jitters behind him, Streb made the cut at 17 out of 21 events in 2013, with two top 10 finishes.

Sunday’s victory, which comes early in the 2014/2015 season, is a testimony to Streb’s hard work and meticulous approach to the game. Holding his nerve in a tense playoff against more experienced competitors, he clinched his first title to join the PGA Tour’s winners circle. Fans should watch this talented player carefully as his career continues on the up-and-up.
