Course Review: The World's Biggest Golf Resorts

The World's Biggest Golf Resorts

Imagine waking up to a day of golf on one of twelve different courses, with breath-taking views from the clubhouse and luxury facilities that will keep your family happily occupied – this weekend golfer's dream has become reality at the world's largest golf resorts.

The world's biggest golf resorts offer unbelievable variety, with signature courses designed to suit the skills of high and low-handicap players alike – let's take a look at two of the world's biggest golf resorts.

Mission Hills Resort – Shenzhen, China
With a total of 216 holes open to the public - Mission Hills is the world's largest golf facility and a major milestone in Chinese golf tourism.

Eleven signature championship courses and an 18 hole par-three course make up the golf offering at Mission Hills, which was declared the world's largest golf resort in 2004 by the Guinness Book of Records.

Each championship course at Mission Hills is named after its creator, with golfing greats including Jack Nicklaus, David Leadbetter  and Ernie Els having designed courses for the resort. The par-3 course was designed by Chinese golf champion Zhang Lian-wei.

Golf aside, the facilities at Mission Hills include a luxury hotel and spa, the largest tennis facility in Asia, and an adjoining lifestyle development complete with mall and IMAX cinema. These amenities are sure to keep non-golfers in the family entertained while you take in the impressive golf offering at this one-of-a-kind resort.

Pinehurst Resort – Pinehurst, North Carolina
For golfers who'd prefer a resort in North America, the iconic Pinehurst Resort is the largest of its kind.

Pinehurst was the world's largest golf resort prior to the completion of Mission Hills, and the eight-course, 144-hole facility lives up to its reputation of being the "cradle of American golf". A luxury hotel rounds off the offering at Pinehurst, which is popular with golf tourists from around the world.

The resort has hosted several prestigious events since it first opened over a century ago, and though it may be slightly smaller than its Chinese successor, it has a long history that makes Pinehurst hallowed ground for many golfers.

Non-golfing activities at Pinehurst include tennis, fitness activities, and lawn sports. The nearby town of Pinehurst is also a popular tourist spot for spouses and kids who haven't yet caught the golf bug.
